Instructor: Bill Bakken This class is the third of a series of three classes on the ancient middle east before the conquests of Alexander the Great. Beginning with the invasions of the fertile crescent about 1700 BC we will discuss the kingdoms and empires that formed in the area up to the formation of the Persian Empire by Cyrus and its consolidation by Darius. Included will be a brief survey of the Hebrew state and the monotheism that it proclaimed.
