Explore Minnesota Through Statewide Winter Scavenger Hunt
For the fourth consecutive year, Explore Minnesota, the state's tourism promotion office, in partnership with Monopoint Media, has launched the Checkpoint MN statewide scavenger hunt Dec. 15, 2016 - Feb. 12, 2017. The event spotlights 10 iconic travel destinations, including Rochester's Silver Lake Park. Checkpoint MN will entice thousands of travelers with more than $45,000 in prizes, including The North Face winter gear, KEEN footwear, Minnesota ski, snowboard, and fat bike getaway packages from The-House.com, and more.
Rochester was chosen as a location to host one of the checkpoints. The checkpoint sign can be found near the north loop of Silver Lake Park. Only five minutes from downtown Rochester, Silver Lake Park is the city's largest park, notable for its namesake 40-acre lake and connectivity to an extensive trail system.
Minnesota is the only state to host a winter tourism-themed scavenger hunt that encompasses a variety of destinations and attractions statewide. Checkpoint MN locations include a mix of unique sites that embody winter travel and can be found only in Minnesota, including:
- Artist Point, Grand Marais
