Visitors to Rochester, Minn. are astonished by the wide variety and availability of sports teams, ranging from amateur and youth to semi-professional and national club teams. Sports lovers find no shortage of action, excitement and competitive spirit in this Midwestern innovation city.
Rochester Honkers Baseball Club
The Honkers Baseball Club is a member of the Northwoods League, a summer collegiate baseball league. They were the 2009 Champions and draw the top college players from the Midwest and beyond. The Honkers have become known across the country for their cow milking contests and renditions of the "YMCA." All games are played at Mayo Field.
The Rochester A's is a part of the American Legion Division I Baseball. In 2003, the team had successfully became only the fourth from Minnesota to ever win the National American League World Series in its 77-year history. Rochester is also home to two other Legion teams, the Rochester Patriots and the Rochester Red Hawks.
The Rochester Royals is an Amateur baseball team that has called Mayo Field home since 1924. The team routinely makes an appearance at the Class B State Amateur baseball tournament and in 2006 the Royals won the State Championship. Ticket prices are $3 for adults, and $1 for students and seniors.
Minnesota Ice Hawks Hockey
The Ice Hawks made Rochester their home in 2002-2003, moving from nearby Mankato, Minn. The Ice Hawks recruit players locally and nationally. Considered a Junior B U.S. Hockey League team, team players have become a part of the Rochester community, raising families locally and working part-time. The Ice Hawks have won the Busch Cup for the past five consecutive years and were national semi-finalists in 2006.
Rochester Giants Football
The Rochester Giants are a semi-professional football team located in Rochester and five-time champions of the Great Plains Football League. The adult amateur football organization was formed in 2003 and continues to recruit some of the area's best players. All games are played on Saturday nights at Soldiers Field. Tickets are $6 for adults; children under the age of ten are free.
