For golf enthusiasts, sometime golfers or those entertaining clients, Rochester, Minn. is paradise.  Boasting nine courses and 126 public holes, Rochester has affordable golf options averaging less than $36 per round and ranging from 5,823 to 7,209 yards and par 70-72.

Somerby Golf Club

This destination, Tom Lehman course features gently rolling fairways, thick stands of trees, meandering creeks, and handsome pockets of grassy wetlands.  At 7,209 yards and par 72, the Somerby Golf Club is located in Byron, Minn. and offers five sets of tees, giving players of all abilities a chance at par.  The private, 18-hole course opened in 2004 with bent grass fairways and greens.

Solder's Memorial Field

The city of Rochester was built around this public, 18-hole, 5,823-yard, par 70 course.  The city's oldest course, which includes views of the city skyline and a river flowing through half of the holes.  The public course was built in 1925 and redesigned by Gerry Pirkl and Donald Brauer in the 1960s.  Signature hole #5 is a 165-yard par 3 featuring both an elevated tee box and green, and requiring an approach shot over water to the green.  Open April 1 to Nov. 1.

Rochester golf and Country Club

Designed in 1916 by A. W. Tillinghast, the Rochester Golf and Country Club is a private course known for its rolling terrain with many pine trees and changes in elevation, steep-banked bunkers, and fast, subtle greens.  Its 18 holes, 6,602 yards and par 71 are marked by extremely narrow fairways lined by mature trees and bordered by a standard cut of rough, and a pond that comes to play on two holes.  Open April 1 to Nov. 1; dress code.

Eastwood Golf Course

Opened in 1965, the Eastwood Golf Course is the hilliest of the Rochester city courses. The 18-hole, par 70 public course offers 6,602 yards with tree-lined, rolling, bluegrass fairways and smaller, sloped, bent grass greens.  Eastwood Golf Course recently underwent a major rebuilding of nine golf holes.  Open April 1 through Nov.1.

Maple Valley Golf and Country Club

Built in 1963, when architect Wayne Idso turned some of his family farm into an 18-hole golf course, the Maple Valley Golf and Country Club is a scenic, semi-private course that follows the Root River with bluffs, river-cut holes and mature trees.  At 5,916 yards and par 71, the links-style course provides a variety of bent grass fairways, slightly sloped, Bermuda grass greens, and ponds on three holes.  Open April 1 through Nov. 1; Just a 30 minute drive to southeastern Rochester from downtown.

Meadow Lakes Golf Club

With water on 15 of 18 holes, the 6,287-yard, par 71 Meadow Lakes Golf Course presents the public with a contemporary golf experience.  The course's bent grass greens average 6,500 square feet, the largest in southern Minnesota with many subtle undulations, including two island greens.  Tight, winter rye fairways provide a challenging par.  The state-of-the-art practice facility and driving range are local favorites.  The clubhouse is open year-round.

Norhtern Hills Golf Course

Rolling terrain and large, yet fast bent grass greens public, 6,335-yard, par 72 Northern Hills Golf Course a remarkable experience.  Signature hole #6 is a 504-yard par 5 featuring a creek that cuts across the fairway and flows into a lake on the right, and a well-bunkered green.  Open April 1 to Nov. 1.

Oak Summit Golf Course

The challenging 18 holes of the Oak Summit Golf Course enable golfers to use all of the clubs in their bags.  At 6,434 yards and par 71, the public course has a rolling, fairly hilly layout with five ponds, a small creek, bluegrass fairways, and mature trees.  Several sand bunkers and undulating bent grass greens keep the course challenging.  Signature hole #9 is a 230-yard par 3 requiring a tee shot over a valley to an elevated green.  Open April 1 to Nov. 1.

Willow Creek Golf Course

With excellent greens, a creek that comes into play on several holes, woods on the back nine, and varied, bluegrass fairways, the William J. Spear-designed Willow Creek Golf Course is well-manicured at 18 holes, 6,053 yards and par 70.  The course is semi-private and is open March 18 to Nov. 15.

Hadley Creek Golf Learning Center

A First Tee learning facility with 40 stations, two practice greens, eight targets, and nine holes. Adult and junior lessons and classes available.
